Some new leather boots fit perfectly right out of the box, while others may need a little bit of love. There are several options for stretching the leather correctly and effectively for a comfortable, stunning fit.

Before You Start Stretching 👈
Your boots can give some space, but only in the right places. The calf can be widened up to 5 cm (2 inches), while the ankle and front width will stretch only to a certain extent. The length is fixed and cannot be stretched, so it is essential to read the description of the boots and check our size guide before ordering.

Three Ways to Stretch Your Boots. These methods vary in effort and cost 💪
1. Wear Thick Socks to Loosen the Leather
Slip on thick socks, put on your new boots, and walk around for 30 to 60 minutes to let the leather adjust gradually. Repeat as needed, but remember to give your feet a well deserved break. It is always good to start wearing your boots for short periods before building up time.
Tip for high instep 💛
If you have a high instep and have difficulty putting the boots on, place your foot inside a clean plastic bag. The bag helps your foot glide in smoothly. When your boots are stretched enough, you do not need to use a plastic bag anymore.
2. Use a Boot Stretcher and or a Leather Stretching Spray
The boot stretchers can gently expand the front width and the calf part of the boot. Insert the fully closed stretcher into the boot, turn the handle until snug, then give a few extra turns for the desired stretch. Leave the stretcher in for the indicated hours, then reverse the handle to remove it.
A stretching spray is useful to soften the leather. Apply it to the inside and outside of the tight areas to relax the material. You can combine these two methods or try the one you like more.
3. Go to a Professional Cobbler
Cobblers know how to stretch materials like leather without compromising structure or longevity. A cobbler can expand the calf and width using a professional stretching machine, or target specific areas like a bunion with specialized tools.
Does Leather Crack When You Stretch It
No, if you do it carefully. Overstretching can damage the material, but when done gradually and combined with regular conditioning, the fibers stay flexible and resistant to cracks. We recommend using leather conditioner every three months, but if you wear your boots every day, then they need to be conditioned more often.
